Complete Accessibility Across Levels: Dual Home Lifts for a Sloped Mosman Residence

In a distinctive Mosman home built on a challenging sloped site, Lift Shop was engaged to supply two bespoke home lifts designed to provide seamless access across multiple levels. The homeowners required solutions to replace an aging elevator and to add a new lift that connects critical living spaces, ensuring full accessibility throughout the residence.

This project highlights Lift Shop’s expertise in customizing lift solutions for complex architectural environments—blending style, functionality, and technical precision.

Project Background: Accessibility Meets Architectural Challenge

The Mosman property presented unique design challenges due to its sloping terrain and multi-level layout. The original elevator servicing the garage to the home was outdated and no longer met the homeowners’ needs for reliability and aesthetics. Additionally, the home’s main lobby and laundry were on different levels, separated by a stairwell that complicated movement.

The homeowners sought two lifts:

  • The dual-lift solution in Mosman’s sloped residence showcases Lift Shop’s ability to address complex accessibility needs with style. For another example of our expertise in modernising homes, see how we transformed a Mosman property by replacing an outdated system with a sleek retrofit home elevator. Featuring a glass shaft and custom finishes, this E1 lift blends seamlessly with contemporary interiors, proving that upgrading existing lifts can enhance both functionality and aesthetic appeal in multi-level homes..
  • Lift 2: New installation to service between the main lobby and laundry.

Both lifts needed to maintain a consistent visual language while fitting into their respective unique spaces within the home. Lift Shop proposed a combination of the Swing Door E1 model and the Sliding Door E2 model, each tailored to the distinct spatial and functional requirements.

Lift 1 – Swing Door E1: Stylish Functionality for Vertical Travel

This lift was designed as a single-entry cabin to replace the existing elevator between the garage and the home’s upper levels. Key features include:

  • Configuration: Single entry with swing doors for traditional, elegant access.
  • Doors: Solid steel swing doors primed for painting, allowing the homeowner to finish them to perfectly match interior décor.
  • Walls: Finished in Inox Dots Oro, a premium stainless steel panel offering a subtle textured effect with a warm golden hue.
  • Profiles: Brushed stainless steel, providing durability and a refined aesthetic.
  • Flooring: Finished by the client to coordinate with the home’s flooring scheme.
  • Cabin Size: Spacious 1000mm wide by 1400mm deep, comfortably accommodating passengers and cargo.
  • Travel Distance: Covers three floors, totaling 6540mm, ensuring efficient vertical movement within the sloped home.

Lift 2 – Sliding Door E2: Contemporary Convenience Between Key Living Areas

The second lift was designed for a slightly different purpose—connecting the main lobby to the laundry area, which are on separate levels but separated by a stairwell. This lift features:

  • Configuration: Opposite entries with sliding doors for smooth flow between entry points.
  • Doors: Powdercoated sliding doors in Grey White (RAL 9002), providing a clean, modern finish that blends seamlessly with interior walls.
  • Walls: Also finished in Inox Dots Oro to maintain continuity with the other lift’s aesthetic.
  • Profiles: Brushed stainless steel, echoing the premium finishes throughout the home.
  • Flooring: Installed with Touch 2402, a durable and attractive surface designed for residential lifts.
  • Cabin Size: 1100mm wide by 1400mm deep, slightly wider than Lift 1 to accommodate different entry points and traffic flow.
  • Travel Distance: Spans two floors with a travel height of 3377mm.

Design Cohesion and Customization

Despite serving different areas and functions, both lifts share aesthetic elements to create harmony across the home. The consistent use of Inox Dots Oro wall panels and brushed stainless steel profiles lends a luxurious feel that complements Mosman’s upscale residential character.

The choice of a solid steel swing door for the first lift was guided by the client’s desire to customize the door finish to blend with the home’s garage and entrance styles. Meanwhile, the sliding doors on the second lift provide efficient, space-saving access ideal for a tight hallway between the lobby and laundry.

Technical Excellence and Installation Precision

Each lift was engineered for smooth operation, quiet ride quality, and reliability. The travel distances were carefully calculated to fit the home’s vertical layout, and the cabins were built to maximize available space without compromising comfort or safety.

Lift Shop’s end-to-end service included:

  • Detailed site surveys and design consultation
  • Collaboration with builders and interior designers to ensure structural and aesthetic integration
  • Installation by experienced technicians adhering to Australian safety standards
  • Post-installation support and maintenance planning

Outcomes: Seamless Vertical Mobility Enhancing Daily Life

The dual-lift solution delivered a home fully accessible to family members of all ages and abilities. Both lifts operate at the push of a button, eliminating the inconvenience and safety risks of stairs across the multi-level Mosman residence.

Additionally, the lifts’ tailored designs enhance the home’s interior styling rather than detract from it—an essential balance in high-end residential projects.
