Innovative and architectural in equal measure, this newly constructed home in Melbourne’s Armadale showcased bold design with its centrally located decorative round shaft, encased in rendered finish and framed by a wraparound staircase. At the heart of this structural statement? A custom-designed E2 home lift from Lift Shop.
The cylindrical shaft not only draws the eye, it provides a stunning context for the vertical movement through the residence. Within this sculptural form, the fully galvanised E2 lift was specified, offering durability and design flexibility. From there, the owner/builder added their personal touch — powdercoating the profiles and landing doors to perfectly match the home’s contemporary interiors.
Inside the cabin, polyurethane wall panelling created a clean, modern finish while a full-height rear wall mirror added light and spatial depth to the lift’s interior. These sleek surfaces were grounded by a bleached ash timber floor, chosen to provide seamless continuity with the surrounding flooring at entry level. It’s a cohesive blend of textures and tones — clean, crisp, and custom.
One of the standout functional benefits of this round shaft design was the additional space it allowed within the vertical envelope. This extra shaft volume enabled air-conditioning ducting to be routed across all levels of the home — a clever design move that didn’t interfere with the lift itself. (As always, services inside lift shafts must be independently partitioned and accessible externally — and Lift Shop ensures compliance and safety with every installation.)
This project demonstrates how the right lift — thoughtfully planned and creatively integrated — can enhance even the most ambitious architectural vision.
