In homes where the staircase dominates the landscape, accessibility can often feel like an afterthought. But with smart design and the right lift partner, even the most stair-heavy properties can be transformed into models of convenience and sophistication. That was the challenge — and the opportunity — in this recent retrofit project, where Lift Shop was tasked with adding an ElfoLift to a steeply tiered home.
Instead of compromising space or design integrity, our team created a custom shaft at the front of the home, seamlessly integrating an adjacent through car ElfoLift that made every level effortlessly accessible. The available space allowed for a generous cabin size of 1100mm wide x 1400mm deep — providing enough room for ease of movement, even for multiple passengers or those with mobility aids.
The external doors on each landing were finished in a smooth powdercoat, paired with full panoramic-size clear glass panels. These not only give the lift a clean, modern feel but also help it visually connect to the architectural lines of the home. Inside the cabin, thoughtful finishes continue the design story: one wall features a full-size mirror to enhance light and spatial feel, while the opposite wall is finished in high-gloss black laminate from our premium ARPA range — offering bold contrast and a sleek, high-end aesthetic.
The design is further elevated with polished stainless steel corner profiles and a vertical car operating panel, offering both style and durability. A one-piece manufactured stone floor completes the look, tying the lift back into the broader interior palette and providing a luxurious underfoot experience.
For homes built on multiple levels, our retrofitting expertise means you no longer have to sacrifice style for functionality. This project is a shining example of how elegant accessibility can be added — not just without compromise, but as a value-adding, visually striking feature.
