North Bondi, Sydney

Four levels, one lift, no compromise on the interior

Finishes vary slightly between the two lifts.

This is a home built around texture. Sandstone, oak and carpeted stairs run through every level, and the lifts had to sit comfortably among them. Mirror-bright sliding doors do that. They reflect the stone instead of competing with it.

A lower level worth reaching

The lowest floor is not storage. It holds open tiled living space, a wellness room and a wine room lined with sandstone. These are rooms people want to use every day, and a lift makes sure they do.

At the foot of the stair the lift doors sit in line with the wall, polished and quiet. Anyone can ride down to the gym or the wine room, whatever their age or mobility, and ride back up with a case of wine or a laundry basket.

Rooms that earn their place

A four level home asks a lot of its owners. Without a lift, the top and bottom floors become occasional spaces. With a lift, every room is a short ride away and the whole floor plan gets used.

The wine room and the wellness room show it. Both sit at the bottom of the house and both stay part of daily life.

Sliding doors for a tight stair hall

The stair hall is narrow, with a feature stone wall on one side and a carpeted stair on the other. Sliding doors suit that kind of space. They open without a swing, so nothing blocks the stair, and the polished steel reads as part of the architecture.

Four stops, two lifts and one clean finish. The result is a home that moves easily from the street frontage to the lowest floor.

Why it works on four levels

Every floor reachable

Four stops connect the lowest living level to the top of the home, so no floor becomes a trek.

Doors that match the materials

Polished stainless steel sits well beside sandstone and oak. The lift looks chosen, not added.
