In a beautiful multi‑level residence nestled in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, the homeowners required a residential lift that not only provided practical access across all four floors but also integrated seamlessly with the relaxed, beach‑style aesthetic of their home. The result is a refined, design‑led elevator solution, featuring an opposite through‑car lift configuration—ideal for efficient, intuitive movement between levels, and perfectly aligned with the property’s coastal décor and security considerations.
This expansive eastern suburb home spans four levels, including a basement, mid‑level living areas, upper bedrooms, and a rooftop terrace with ocean views. The family wanted effortless, accessible movement between levels—for daily use, for guests, and future‑proofing. At the same time, they didn’t want a bulky, industrial lift to disrupt the home’s open, calming interior. What they needed was a lift that felt both functional and thoughtfully integrated—part of the design, not apart from it.
Lift Shop’s reputation as a leading provider of residential lifts made us the preferred choice. We were engaged early in the design process to ensure the lift would meet technical requirements, align with the home’s material palette, and maintain sightlines and flow between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Designing a lift for this coastal home presented multiple challenges:
Lift Shop proposed an opposite through‑car configuration, ideal for easy movement in and out on multiple levels without turning around inside the cabin. This setup provides dual entry/exits—great for a family moving freely through bedrooms, living areas, and terraces with minimal disruption.
On the exterior, a DMG lock was integrated into the landing door system. This smart security feature allows automatic exit from the lift without needing a key, while requiring authorised access for entry from the outside—ensuring both freedom and peace of mind.
Landing doors exposed to outdoor environments received a marine‑grade protective paint. This robust finish resists salt, UV and moisture—all common by the sea—protecting the lift’s aesthetic over time and matching the home’s coastal resilience standard.
One of the most visually striking design decisions was cladding the lift landing doors with timber‑panelled sheets matching the home’s ceiling paneling. This soft, warm material continues across levels, making the lift blend into the architecture rather than stand out. The result is a cohesive interior narrative where the lift feels like a built‑in feature instead of an add‑on.
Inside the lift cabin, finishes were carefully selected to reflect the coastal palette and refine the riding experience:
